When you imagine your custom home, do your eyes light up and a smile cross your lips? You're not thinking about square footage or structural details. Instead, you're envisioning your special statement space, the room that truly reflects who you are, what you love, and how you want to live.
Are you dreaming of a room to keep your vintage wine collection at the perfect temperature? Or maybe a fitness space equipped with your favorite gear? Perhaps you want a screening room where family and friends gather to watch the latest movies? Whatever your passion, these extraordinary spaces transform a house into your one-of-a-kind home.

Your luxury home is your chance to curate your lifestyle and to create spaces that evoke emotion every time you walk in. Here are some of the most captivating statement rooms I've designed to inspire what your dream home could include.
The Art of the Wine Room
Wine rooms have become one of my most requested specialty spaces. There's something magical about having a dedicated space for your collection. Do you prefer a small, intimate room or an elaborate cellar, like the one I designed in Las Vegas, complete with custom millwork and temperature-controlled storage for hundreds of bottles?

When designing your wine room, consider ambient-temperature storage for reds and built-in refrigeration for whites and Prosecco. These rooms can also serve as cold pantries, ideal for items that benefit from cooler temperatures but don't belong in the refrigerator, such as root vegetables.
A thoughtfully designed wine room is where memories are made over shared bottles and great conversation.
The Gym That Actually Gets Used
Perhaps you're dreaming of a home gym tailored perfectly to how you love to move. Do you run, bike, or lift weights? Your gym needs enough space not only to fit equipment but also to allow for stretching and flowing through your activities.
In my current Lake House project, my client does Pilates. We designed the space around her reformer with at least three feet of clearance on all sides to accommodate bands, pulleys, and stretching.

Another crucial factor in gym design is floor load capacity. Weight machines and free weights are heavy, so your luxury home needs a floor system designed to handle the load safely and durably.
Media Rooms That Bring Your Family Together
Media rooms aren't just about big TVs in the basement anymore. They can be cozy family zones or full screening rooms with tiered seating. One client in Las Vegas, a well-known developer, had a large space for private screenings with his Hollywood connections. Another client in California had a small screening room where he installed a popcorn machine, much like those found in movie theaters. Adding personal touches makes a space uniquely yours.

Media rooms can serve the whole family beautifully. Your kids pile in for video games while you and your friends settle in for movie nights with surround sound. Or perhaps you want a more intimate feeling: a cozy media room with recliner chairs where you and your partner can unwind together.
The Unexpected: Safe Rooms and Panic Rooms
Safe rooms are gaining popularity, even in areas without a history of tornadoes. In Las Vegas, a client requested a "panic room" for added security in the event of a break-in. These spaces can also serve as a secure place to store your valuables.
Tornado-safe rooms are designed to follow FEMA guidelines, but many people opt for metal box inserts inside closets that provide protection without dedicating an entire room. You want to feel secure without feeling like you are in a crypt.

Consider incorporating a safe space or panic room into your custom home design.
Spaces for the Soul: Libraries, Music Rooms and Art Studios
A statement space nurtures your mind, heart, and soul, becoming a creative retreat.
Your craft room can be cozy and organized, where every tool is readily available for your next project. I created a 1,000-square-foot art studio in Bentonville with thoughtful lighting to support my client’s work. Proper ventilation ensured a comfortable environment, and innovative storage solutions kept everything accessible.

For a client in California, I designed a stunning two-story octagonal library with a vaulted ceiling that reached nearly 24 feet in height. Movable ladders glided smoothly on tracks, providing easy access to every book. The graceful catwalk wrapped around the upper level adds both architectural charm and practical access to the highest shelves. At the center of the octagonal space, a beautiful table with comfortable chairs created the perfect spot for reading and research.
If you love to play the violin, guitar, or drums, you may want a music room in your dream home. Music rooms require precise soundproofing and acoustics. Whether you want a piano room or a recording studio, your luxury home can have a musical sanctuary where your heart and soul can express themselves fully.
The Wellness Revolution: Saunas and Soaking Tubs
Wellness has transformed how we think about bathrooms and spa spaces. Steam showers, which help detoxify the body's toxins, are increasingly popular in custom homes. I designed a shower as large as seven feet, so my tall client can lie down on a bench and fully experience the therapeutic steam.

Japanese soaking tubs are another wellness product that my clients are requesting. Unlike traditional bathtubs, which require you to lie down, you sit inside with water up to your shoulders. I recently specified one alongside a sauna in a Bentonville home. When I remodeled my own house, I installed a 22” deep bathtub instead of the standard 17” ones.
Why not install a sauna or a soaking tub in your dream home, allowing you to relax and enjoy the rejuvenating health benefits it offers?
Bringing Nature Indoors: Solariums and Screened Porches
Solariums or winter gardens create a unique connection to nature throughout the year. My friend in Minnesota has a stunning winter garden where, even in the snowy, frozen winter months, the sun warmly beams through the glass, caressing her and her thriving plants. This magical contrast between the chilly outdoors and cozy indoors brings a deep appreciation for these spaces, making solarium rooms feel like sacred retreats filled with life and light.

In Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee, screened porches extend indoor living to outdoor spaces while keeping the bugs away. The Lake House project features three screened porches: one off the guest suite, one off the primary suite, and one off the main entertainment area, located by the kitchen. The main screen porch is quite large and designed to house a golf simulator, an outdoor bar, a pizza oven, and a "Pop-A-Shot" basketball game. It’s an outdoor room that will be the hub of many fun family activities.
When designing your custom home, create outdoor living spaces that express your individuality and complement your climate and lifestyle.

Your Statement Space Awaits
The most successful statement spaces aren't just following trends. They're about understanding how you live, what brings you joy, and what would make coming home feel like a daily celebration.
Cigar lounges offer sophisticated retreats for relaxation and socializing. Indoor pools bring year-round enjoyment as stunning focal points in your home.
Whether it's a wine room where you can escape with a good book, a gym that motivates you to move, or a solarium to bring nature indoors, these spaces become the heart of your home.
When we design your custom home, we'll discuss your dreams, collections, hobbies, and lifestyle. Together, we'll create those statement spaces to make your home uniquely and unmistakably yours. Let’s start the conversation at 858-344-2404 or email caitlin@caitlinkelleyarchitect.com today.
